Dr. Christopher Leja

Periodontist

Dr. Chris Leja was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received dual bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and German from the University of Michigan in 2001. He then worked in the auto industry for a few years before pursuing his DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

After graduation, he accepted a full ride scholarship to the Periodontics residency program at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in Rochester, New York. He has worked in private practice in West Michigan since 2013.

Dr. Leja is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and he has served on the West Michigan delegation to the Michigan Dental Association annual session. He also served for four years on the board of the Kent County Dental Society. He has lead and participated in multiple study clubs and continues to further his education through advanced CE courses every year.

Dr. Kevin Winegar, DDS, MS

Periodontist

Dr. Kevin Winegar was born and raised in Midland, MI and later attended University of Michigan to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Dr. Winegar then began his dental journey with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from New York University College of Dentistry, consistently ranking in the top ten percent of his class as a member of the national dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon. When graduating dental school, he received multiple accolades including the Samuel Charles Miller Award for the highest knowledge and skill in periodontology as well as the Academy of General Dentistry Award as the most promising dentist.

Following graduation, Dr. Winegar completed a periodontology residency at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester Medical Center under a three-year stipend. During this time, Dr. Winegar honed his skills in a wide range of procedures from conservative periodontal therapy to complex dental implant surgeries, eventually earning the title of chief resident. On top of his specialty training, he also pursued a Master of Science in Dental Sciences (MS) degree by researching a novel technique on gingival grafts around implants.

Dr. Winegar's commitment to excellence extends beyond his practice as he actively participates in local and national professional organizations, staying current with the latest research in periodontology. This dedication ensures that his patients receive the highest standard of care, personalized to their unique needs in a professional and compassionate manner. In his personal life, Dr. Winegar and his wife enjoy travelling, skiing, and hiking in the breathtaking natural landscapes of Michigan.

Our Kalamazoo Periodontics office is conveniently located in the southwest region of Kalamazoo, and easy to access via US 131 and I94.
